Why Direct Thermal

The most cost-effective shipping label for high-volume operations.

Direct thermal labels require no ribbon, no ink, and no cartridge. The label surface reacts directly to the heat of the printhead to produce the image. That means fewer supplies to manage, fewer things to run out of mid-shift, and a lower cost per label than thermal transfer alternatives.

For shipping labels — which have a short service life from print to delivery scan — direct thermal is the right material. The print does not need to last years. It needs to scan reliably from the packing station to the carrier’s delivery confirmation. Direct thermal does that well and does it economically.

Our 4″×6″ direct thermal shipping labels are the industry standard size — compatible with UPS, FedEx, and USPS carrier label formats and designed for full-size thermal printers from Zebra, Datamax, Intermec, and other major brands.

Common Questions

Frequently asked about shipping labels.

No. Our standard shipping labels are direct thermal — no ink, no ribbon, no cartridge required. The label surface reacts to heat from the printhead to produce the image directly. This is one of the main reasons direct thermal is the industry standard for shipping labels: fewer supplies, lower cost per label, and simpler printer setup.

Yes. Our 4″×6″ direct thermal labels are compatible with carrier label formats for UPS, FedEx, and USPS. They are the industry standard size used by the majority of e-commerce sellers, fulfillment centers, and warehouse shipping operations.

We stock shipping labels on 1-inch and 3-inch cores. Most desktop thermal printers use a 1-inch core. Industrial printers typically accept both. If you are not sure which core fits your printer, tell us your printer make and model when you reach out and we will confirm before your order ships.

Yes. Fanfold is available for high-volume print stations where roll changeover frequency is a concern. If you need fanfold, mention it in the quote form along with your required stack height and we will confirm what we stock or can produce.

Yes. Mobile and handheld thermal printers require smaller core diameters and roll sizes than full-size units. We produce custom mobile rolls for Zebra, Datamax, Intermec, and other mobile printer brands. Tell us your printer model and we will confirm the right configuration before producing your order.

We work with operations of all sizes — from small e-commerce sellers ordering a few rolls to distribution centers buying in bulk. Reach out with your volume and we will find an option that fits.
